This review is a joint effort between Niall Doherty (founder of eBiz Facts) and a hired freelancer named Hannah based in the USA.

Our process:

  1. We hired Hannah to sign up to Survey Junkie and spend 10 hours filling out surveys on there.
  2. Hannah documented her work and tracked her progress.
  3. We searched online for additional information about Survey Junkie and carefully noted our findings.
  4. We wrote a first draft of this review.
  5. We sent the draft to our Freedom Business Builder community and the folks at Survey Junkie and asked for feedback.
  6. We made our final edits and published the review.

Is Survey Junkie legit?

Two of the most popular things people search for in relation to Survey Junkie:

  • Is survey junkie legit?
  • survey junkie scam

You might be wondering yourself if Survey Junkie is a legitimate way of making money online.

Having spent 20+ hours using and researching the site ourselves, we’ll tell it to you straight: Survey Junkie is legit, but you’re not going to earn a lot of money on there. Or on any other survey site, for that matter.

Survey Junkie are upfront about this themselves, stating in their help section:

You will NOT get rich by taking surveys. The rewards for each survey will vary but with commitment and regular participation, you’ll have the opportunity to earn extra cash each month.

Survey Junkie is also accredited by the Better Business Bureau, which has awarded the company a B rating, and notes that 300+ customers have given the company an average review of 4.5 stars.

Survey Junkie review: BBB rating

Furthermore, we spent more than 10 hours completing surveys on Survey Junkie ourselves and were able to cash out easily.

Why then do so many people question if Survey Junkie is legit?

Most likely, it’s because there are many misleading Survey Junkie reviews online.

Many of those reviews are written to generate affiliate commissions, and so tend to make exaggerated claims about how much money you can earn on Survey Junkie, in the hopes that you’ll get excited, click an affiliate link and sign up.

For example, we’ve read reviews claiming that you can earn $100/day on Survey Junkie, or even $15 in only 20 minutes. Based on our experience and research, earning such amounts is extremely rare if not outright impossible.

In summary: Survey Junkie is legit, but most Survey Junkie reviews are not.

How much does Survey Junkie pay?

Jimmy here is representative of a typical person taking surveys at Survey Junkie…

  • Jimmy Junk

  • Online survey taker at Survey Junkie
  • $2.50 average earnings per hour

Your earning potential on any survey site comes down to two primary factors:

  • How much you can earn per hour, on average.
  • How many surveys are available for you to answer each day.

If you can earn a high amount per hour and there are endless surveys available, you can earn a lot of money.

On Survey Junkie, those two factors can vary greatly depending on demographics.

For example, our researcher Hannah is 19 years old, has not completed university, and lives in Florida. After spending 10 hours answering surveys on Survey Junkie, she earned a total of $15, or $1.50 per hour.

Other (believable) reports we’ve found online note earnings of $3 per hour, and more is likely possible if you fall into a “richer” demographic.

Given all that, here’s our best estimate for how much you can earn on Survey Junkie:

Dollars Per Hour 7
$2.50

Which is about average for survey sites. (See which survey site is best here.)

Where Survey Junkie really excels however, is in the number of surveys available each day…

Survey Quantity 8
good

Although your earnings per hour are likely to decrease as you spend more time on the site, it’s still possible to spend several hours per day on there answering paid surveys.

We even found a report of someone spending 4 hours per day on Survey Junkie for an entire month and earning $248 total, which works out to about $2 per hour.

Of course, there are many ways to earn more money per hour working online, but the reason many people like using Survey Junkie for this purpose seems to be because answering surveys is easy and doesn’t require your full attention.

Time and time again we’ve heard Survey Junkie fans saying things like this:

I love that I can be eating pizza while watching Netflix or listening to a podcast, and earning a few easy dollars answering surveys at the same time.

Survey Junkie access denied

If you’re seeing this message when you try logging into your Survey Junkie account, it’s usually for one of two reasons…

1. Survey Junkie is not available in your country

Perhaps you signed up for Survey Junkie in an approved country but now you’re trying to access it from somewhere else?

Remember that you can only use Survey Junkie while in the countries listed below.

Countries Available

USA, Canada, Australia.

2. There is a problem with your responses

If Survey Junkie detects that you are rushing through a survey, or that you are providing inconsistent or possibly dishonest answers, you may see a message like this:

Survey Junkie review: access denied

Even if you don’t see that message, you may have broken one of those rules and had your access to Survey Junkie denied as a result.

Your best course of action here is to contact Survey Junkie via surveyjunkie.com/help and ask them to investigate the issue.

Survey Junkie hacks

Try the following tips to maximise your earnings on Survey Junkie.

Complete your profiles

The more you complete, the more Survey Junkie knows about you and the more they can send you targeted (read: higher paying) surveys.

Survey Junkie review: complete profiles
Above: All the different profiles you can complete on Survey Junkie

Keep an eye on your email

According to the Survey Junkie blog:

Survey Junkie will email you each time there’s a paid online survey that you qualify for.

Answer surveys as soon as possible

The highest paying surveys are always the most popular and so tend to fill up fast.

If you do see a high-paying survey available – either via an email alert or when logged into your Survey Junkie account – make sure to respond ASAP.

Be wary of the estimates

Survey Junkie gives you three pieces of information about each survey before you start:

  • Estimated time to complete
  • Your chances of qualifying for the survey (green diamond = best, red diamond = worst)
  • Reward points available (100 points = $1)
Survey Junkie review: surveys
Above: Several surveys available on the Survey Junkie dashboard.

In our experience, only the last of these three pieces of information (i.e. the points) is reliable.

Tracking our results taking 48 surveys, we found that we were actually disqualified most often from green diamond surveys and least often from red diamond surveys, which is the opposite of what you’d expect.

Given that, you may want to track your own results for a while and see if there’s any correlation between the diamond colors and qualification.

We’d love to hear your results in the comments below.

Speed up repetitive data entry

Many of the surveys start out asking you the same basic questions, such as age, sex, address, race, income, etc.

Instead of typing out the same answers to these questions each time, use software like aText (Mac only) or RoboForm to speed up the process.

  • That said, be careful not to go too fast through each survey, as this appears spammy to Survey Junkie and may result in your account being blocked. Slow down and carefully consider your response to each novel question, and make sure to answer everything as honestly as possible.

Set a target hourly rate and test for 2 hours

Maybe you feel Survey Junkie is only worth your time if you can earn $3 or more per hour on there while watching Netflix.

If so, line up your favorite show, set a timer for two hours, and see if you can hit your target.

This simple test will give you a strong sense of how much you can earn long-term using Survey Junkie. If you can’t hit your target rate in those first two hours, it’s unlikely you ever will.

But hey, at least you won’t have spent much time figuring it out!

Is Survey Junkie safe?

Survey Junkie is accredited by the Better Business Bureau, which has awarded the company a B rating, and notes that 300+ customers have given the company an average review of 4.5 stars.

Survey Junkie review: BBB rating

We spent more than 10 hours completing surveys on Survey Junkie ourselves and were able to cash out easily.

So in that respect, yes, Survey Junkie is safe.

However, some surveys will ask you to enter personal information. Decide in advance what information you are comfortable sharing, and what information you would rather keep private.

You can always close out of a survey if you are uncomfortable with the questions being asked.

If you’re ever in doubt about whether or not it’s safe to share certain information with Survey Junkie or their partners, contact Survey Junkie support.

Survey Junkie affiliate program

Referral Program 10

$1.50 per new account.

This is how some folks earn BIG money with Survey Junkie.

We’ve read of people earning $10,000 or more per month as affiliates for survey sites, and Survey Junkie has one of the best affiliate programs in the business.

Essential info for Survey Junkie affiliates

  • Survey Junkie only accepts traffic from the US, Canada, and Australia. Anyone who clicks on your affiliate link from another country will land on an error page.
  • The payout is $1.50 “per conversion.” Survey Junkie counts a conversion as an email submit, single opt-in.

That second point really separates Survey Junkie from the pack.

Most affiliate programs only pay you once a sale is made, but Survey Junkie pays you just for sending them new users who sign up for a free account.

That’s not to say it’s easy to earn money as a Survey Junkie affiliate. Becoming a successful affiliate marketer usually requires quite a bit of work up front.

  1. I finally dropped them. They wer decent when I first joined. (about $5-10/week) After a few weeks it dropped to $5-10/mo and then to almost “100% not qualified for this survey”. I think I actually made less than $1 the last month I was with them even though I daily looked for surveys. I have found that seems to be the norm among the survey outfits. every one I have tried has either had nothing I could complete, numerous surveys that had me spending a half hour plus answering questions and then when the survey should have told me I was getting my points/reward instead gave the screen saying I wasn’t qualified for that survey. Getting (if lucky) 1-2 cents instead of the $1+ that the survey stated it would pay and answering the specific questions they said the survey would cover.

  2. Ive been using survey junkie for a while. Made quite a bit already and i find it to be much more consistent than other sites. Swagbucks, for example, can sometimes earn much more per hour than survey junkie but is super unreliable. I found that from survey junkie i can get a couple dollars an hour pretty reliably. One of my favorite things about the site is that the payout is instant. Only negative is that the surveys that say they will pay after 2-3 weeks dont seem to pay. I took a survey a couple weeks ago that had that same message yet it still says pending in my points history. I contacted support yet havent reached support yet. Other than that, id say its one of the best survey sites out there.

  3. I didn’t realize that you could only do 5000 points but that was my fault I didn’t read. But I don’t know if I can continue to play if they said they would send me a paper check don’t know how long it takes to get check but I do know I absolutely love it

  4. Very nice summary of Survey Junkie. I couldn’t help shaking my head though when reading the section regarding “Access Denied.” Under #2 you post a screencap showing a message someone might receive if SJ believes you are rushing through a survey or not being honest in your answers. I’ve been on SJ since September and I’ve received this message a handful of times when participating in a survey. I never broke any of the “rules” they mentioned… didn’t rush through the survey, was consistent and honest with my answers, etc. I actually contacted them about it in the beginning because I was concerned I’d get kicked off the site for an unfair and untrue accusation. Someone did reply but I think they were confused by my query; they just listed the reasons you might be disqualified from a survey in general (usually not fitting their desired demographics). I think they’re now using that “breaking one of the following rules” message as an excuse to kick you out of a survey, ie. it means the same thing as the “this survey filled up” or “you don’t qualify for this survey” message.

    • Thanks for sharing your experience, Jess.

Survey Junkie support doesn’t sound great. I’m not impressed with the response they gave you.

I think they’re now using that “breaking one of the following rules” message as an excuse to kick you out of a survey

Possibly. Could also be that their algorithm isn’t perfect and sometimes thinks it’s catching people trying to cheat on surveys when they’re actually not.

  5. Great review niall 😀

i have tried surveyjunkie in the past but it was very hard to reach the threshold! i think it’s $10 or so

  6. I have been doing surveys on Survey Junkie for a few months now in my spare time. I like the low payout, which is $5 by the way, but my spare time will now be optimized much better. I just finished your course and am evaluating using my time to make money online in a much better fashion. I’ll still use Survey Junkie for holiday get-together’s dead times, waiting for my kids to be released for school, and during the voids when work isn’t possible.
