Site Progress Report: October 2011
A quick post to tell you that I just published the latest site progress report for ndoherty.com. The report is available exclusively to my email subscribers. If you’re not interested in website traffic or building an audience online, feel free to skip this.
As well as reporting a bunch of growth metrics, I also share in there the details of a few things I’ve been toying with to try build my audience and increase reader engagement. This past month, for example, I reached out to regional and national Irish newspapers and found myself featured in a few of them. But that had nothing at all to do with the massive traffic spike I saw last week…

To view the report, enter your email address in the box below (click here if you don’t see it).

- If you’re already a subscriber, simply enter your email address again, hit submit, and you’ll be taken immediately to a full list of my traffic reports and some other fantasticness. Don’t worry, you won’t be subscribed twice.

you’re my guru (officially). Keep doing what you’re doing and sharing with us poor grounded New Orleanians. I miss you!
Haha, thanks Martha! I think I’m far from guru status though. I could probably learn more from you than you can from me. And hey, New Orleans ain’t a bad place to be
Have the videos helped? I think it’s a great hook to the blog: makes your “unfolding life meta-tale” more accessible.
Do you have plans to “leverage” readership for a different purpose? Books, indie-travel, radical travel, language, culture?
I hate the word leverage, but I don’t understand the purpose of the emails, if not to see how committed your readers are, and how they want to support your missional stuff.
Thanks for any insight Niall. On with the disruption!
M
Hey Mark.
I don’t have any data to back up how much the videos help, but I hear regularly from readers who say they feel like they know me because of the video updates. And that was really the goal with the videos in the first place. I wanted to bridge that gap between my writing voice and my out-and-about voice. Plus, it’s cool to show some of the scenery of the places I’m traveling through.
As for leveraging readership, I have no firm plans yet. But building an engaged audience definitely gives me more opportunities down the line. If I can identify a real need and come up with a solid solution, I’m not opposed to charging for it and using the list as a means of promotion.
Thanks for the comment!
