Responsibility leads to power

There’s no power without responsibility.

I’m not even talking about power in the business sense, but personal power. You can’t improve your life unless you take full responsibility for it. That’s true for every aspect: health, work, relationships, spirituality, finance, and any other way you want to break it down.

If you think that your problems are caused by something or someone outside of your control, you’re effectively surrendering that power.

Think of an area where you feel powerless. Chances are you’re not accepting enough responsibility in that area.

  1. Great post, you’re perfectly right.
I’m sure the idea of personal responsibility is the key to many problems, in society too.
I’m working on a powerless area of mine in these days: I feel positive I will really improve my whole life when I’ll succed taking full responsibility in that particular area!

  2. That’s great, Sara. Just being aware that you can take more responsibility in a certain area is a huge step forward I believe. Most people never realize they have that choice.

    Thanks for the comment.

  3. Niall,
Ah, yes…taking responsibility for our lives. It’s all too easy to blame someone, some circumstance, etc. This reminds me very much of a favorite quote of mine:
“Between stimulus and response there is a space. In that space is our power to choose our response. In our response lies our growth and our freedom.” ~ Viktor E. Frankl

    It’s a choice…our response…our responsibility….

  4. Thanks, Lance. And I’m right there with you on the Frankl quote. Man’s Search for Meaning is one of my all-time favorite books.

  5. That’s pretty inspiring, Niall. The above exercise is good for brainstorming and searching the soul for weaknesses. It addresses the first part of my favorite question: “What do you want and what are you going to do to get it?” Thanks for the hope.

  6. Thanks for reading, Kurt. I like that question of yours.

  7. This is spot on! Grab the bull called life by the horns and take full responsibility for its direction! Waiting around and to see where things will go leaves your destiny in the hands of others and outside forces. “Where there is a will, there is a way!”

  8. Thanks, Mark. Glad you liked it.

  9. Great post Niall! It’s this very mode of thinking that helped me realize my purpose. With great power comes great responsibility- when you realise how much of an impact you have on other people’s lives just by BEING you understand that it is a choice whether you impact people’s lives negatively or positively.

  10. It’s really where it all starts, eh? It helped to read it; so simple but true. Thanks for your timely post Niall.
